George Blackburn
George is the author of three books about his adventures as a Forward Observation Officer
with a Field Artillery Regiment in WWII - "Where The Hell Are The Guns", "The Guns of Normandy"
and "The Guns of Victory".
George joined the LGA at the Coe Hill Warriors Day Parade in September 2005. He told us that it was
the first time since the end of WWII that he had sat at the firing position of a 25 pounder. He was our #3
on the gun crew that day and got to fire off three blank rounds. At the end of the day we retired to the local
Legion in Coe Hill for lots of stories and comradship.
You can find out more about George at:

FIRE! - Re-Load
This is a pic taken at the CWM in 2006 with George standing in front of his plaque, beside that of
General Crerar in the Normandy section in the museum. This plaque honours him for his great work as an
Artillery FOO in Holland where he won the Military Cross.
I spent a week with George in Ottawa hence my presence, we were close friends.
I would suggest that anyone visiting the Museum look up this site and leave a poppy as a remembrance
This one he is recounting some of his experiences from his books.
